Runaway
In 1781 Thomas Baynard ran this ad in the paper: "Run Away from Edisto Island, about four or five weeks ago, a NEGRO FELLOW, belonging to the estate of William Baynard, named Adam : He is slim made, about five feet nine or ten inches high, of this country born, is rather slow of speech, but very sensible, and is supposed to be gone to Wdmalaw, where he formerly had a wife and acquaintance, or to John's-Island or Charles-Town. Whoever will apprehend the said fellow and confine him in the Sugar-House, or deliver him to the subscriber on Edisto-Island, shall receive Eight Dollars reward. Thomas Baynard"[2]
